Mid-Century Pendant Lamp from Rotaflex, 1950s for sale at Pamono

Vintage, Rotaflex, UFO pendant lamp, with adjustable cord, circa 50's/60's.

Piece is made of ribbed, white and yellow Rotaflex (cellulose acetate), and is referred to as "Rotaflex N9" (France.)

The first Rotaflex lamps were manufactured in France as of 1952, by Charron and Disderot, with early designs by Andr Simard and Ren-Jean Caillette. Then, Pierre Guariche, Joseph-Andr Motte and Michel Mortier, designed numerous lamps during their short-lived collaboration known as Atelier de Recherches Plastiques (ARP), from 1954-57. The lamps by ARP were manufactured and sold by Disderot, and distributed by Airborne, Minvielle, Steiner and Luminalite.

The name "Rotaflex" had been utilized by other companies, either using the manufacturing process, or distributing the British Rotaflex lamps in their respective countries, such as Massive in Belgium, Sompex Licht und Form in Germany, and then Verplex and Lightolier, in the United States.

The lamp is in overall very good, original and vintage condition, with some light marks, signs of age and previous use commensurate with time, as well as patina of age and time. Some lightly faded colors on the overall structure, ceiling mount and cord (see photos.) Please note: one image shows where the 2 edges of the lamp's trim meet at the bottom. This is neither a split or a crack.

- The adjustable cord looks to have been replaced at some point in time, and is not original. It's maximum height/length, measures at about 63 cm.
- Lamp is fully functional (see photos), with a B22 bayonnet light bulb (not included.)
- There is a adjustable hook to mount the lamp, and
just under the ceiling mount, there is a tiny, plastic ring to flush the ceiling mount (see photos.)
- Piece has only been gently dusted and cleaned with respect to its original patina of time.
