The Maritime Expeditionary Group 1 (MEG-1) is a specialized naval unit within the United States Navy. Its primary role revolves around the planning, coordination, and execution of amphibious operations at sea, involving the use of ships, aircraft, and landing forces to establish or reinforce a coastal presence on a foreign shore. MEG-1 falls under the operational control of the U.S. Fleet Forces Command when deployed in the Atlantic Ocean, and under the Pacific Fleet when operating in the Pacific. The group consists of numerous components including the Amphibious Ready Groups (ARGs), the Dock Landing Ships (LSDs), the Amphibious Assault Ships (LHA/LHD), and the Aviation Combat Element (ACE). The main mission of MEG-1 is to deliver forces ashore quickly and effectively in support of U.S. national interests, thereby preserving peace and stability around the world.
